BE(Civil) Hons • MIEAust • CPEng • NPER

Simon is an experienced structural engineer with a diverse skill set developed through his involvement in a wide range of projects throughout Australia and the United Kingdom.  He has a strong record of consistently delivering practical, cost effective solutions for building structures, infrastructure, mining and industrial structures.

Simon maintains a strong focus on the constructability aspect of his designs, and wherever possible, encourages the close collaboration of design team and constructor throughout the design process in order to achieve an efficient outcome.  Over the past 15 years he has had significant site-based experience on a range of structure types which has assisted him in understanding practicalities of construction that may not always by fully appreciated in the design office.  In 2008-09, he acted as lead site-based structural engineer during the design and construction phases of the Charlestown Square Redevelopment Project ($400M) delivered by Lend Lease.

Recently, Simon has led the design of various temporary structures for a range of building and infrastructure projects for Tier 1 builders, a selection of which include:-

  • Laing O'Rourke - Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG). K10 wharf extension temporary works, Kooragang Island
  • Networks Alliance  – Sydney Water aqueduct refurbishment temporary works, multiple projects.
  • Leighton Constructions – Electrical substation temporary works, multiple projects, Sydney and the Hunter Valley.
  • Abigroup – Hunter Expressway bridge structure temporary works.
  • John Holland – Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG) Stage 2 inbound and outbound works. Coal handling structures temporary works and heavy lift design.
  • Thiess - Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG) Stage 1 inbound and outbound works. Coal handling structures temporary works and heavy lift design.

Simon’s key strengths include his collaborative approach, high-level analytical skills and attention to detail: skills which he utilised as the lead structural engineer for Wambo Coal’s 2007 Surface Facilities Upgrade.  This project received two prestigious awards, and set new standards for the design of large stockpile conveyor structures. Simon’s numerous long-term client relationships are testament to the level of commitment and expertise he and his team at Lindsay Dynan provide.
