The Task and Our Role
Lindsay Dynan worked with EJE to prepare the civil and structural design of a new five storey classroom building.  This was to be built on land that was previously occupied by structures that were damaged in the 1989 Newcastle Earthquake and had since been demolished.

The design of the new building was to complement the historic appeal of the existing buildings at the campus, which is located in The Hill Heritage Conservation Area.  As demountable classroom buildings were being used on the site of the proposed building, and to minimise disruption to students during construction, the building was designed to be constructed in two stages.

The proposed site was located within a mine subsidence area, necessitating design measures to ensure that the building site was safe, and construction of the building would not lead to future problems should a subsidence event occur.

The new facilities have enabled Newcastle Grammar School to maintain its status as a leading independent coeducational school.  We continue to provide services for Newcastle Grammar School’s current and future expansions at both The Hill and Park campuses.
