The Task and Our Role
Lindsay Dynan was commissioned to design a substation structure that met all electrical requirements including cable entry and exit, access to deliver transformers, and maximise utilisation on a very difficult, steep urban site.  The Newcastle CBD substation is positioned on one of the steepest slopes in the CBD and successfully achieving the project objectives required the substation to be built into the slope.  3D-modelling techniques were successfully utilised to ensure clearances between the complex conduit entries, piling, site drainage systems and the topography of the site.

"The project design team was assembled early in the concept stage and included very proactive client representatives including Electrical Engineers. This ensured the operational requirements and structural civil design constraints were understood and included in each phase of the design development process. The final outcome was functional, economical and architecturally successful." - Merv Lindsay, Director.
